Anibal Cavaco Silva Net Worth: Aníbal Cavaco Silva is a Portuguese politician who has a net worth of $5 million. Anibal Antonio Cavaco Silva was born on July 15, 1939 in Bolicme, Portugal. He is the 19th President of Portugal and the current President. Silva won the Portuguese presidential election on January 22, 2006, and was re-elected for a second term on January 23, 2011.
He was Prime Minister of Portugal (6 November 1985 to 28 October 1995). His ten-year term was the longest of any prime minister since Salazar and the first prime minister to win an absolute majority in the parliament under Portugal’s current constitutional system. Thirteen-year-old Silva did poorly in school and failed his third year of business school, and his grandfather punished him by making him work on a farm. He later returned to school and went on to be an accomplished student. Silva then traveled to Lisbon, where in 1959 he took a vocational education course in accounting at the Instituto Comercial de Lisboa (today known as the Instituto Superior de Contabilidade e Administração de Lisboa (ISCAL)). He went on to higher education and earned a degree in Economics and Finance as well. He did not become active in politics until after the Carnation Revolution in April 1974, joining the then PPD party later that year. Anibal Cavaco Silva was appointed finance minister in 1980 by Prime Minister Francisco Sá Carneiro, where he gained a reputation as an economic liberal and gradually repealed regulations restricting free enterprise . In October 2005, Silva announced his candidacy for the 2006 presidential election. He is the first elected center-right President in Portugal since 1974. He is also the second former Prime Minister to be elected President, following in the footsteps of Mário Soares.
