Angela Kinsey was born on June 25, 1971 in Lafayette, Louisiana, and was originally named Angela Fakinsey. When Angela was 2 years old, her parents Billy (a drilling engineer) and Bertie and their family moved to Jakarta, Indonesia, where they spent 12 years. Kinsey has three older sisters, Billie, Janet and Tina. She learned to speak Indonesian and attended the Jakarta Intercultural School.
