Andrew Stephen Grove (Andrew Stephen Grove) is an American businessman, engineer, and writer born in Hungary. He was the CEO and Chairman of Intel Corporation. He was born in Budapest, Hungary on September 2, 1936, and his original name was András István Gróf. His father “George” is a dairy worker, and his mother “Maria” is a bookkeeper. During the Hungarian Revolution in 1956, Grove fled to Austria. That year, he was 20 years old. He immigrated to the United States a year later.

Grove studied at the City College of New York and received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering in 1960. He completed his doctorate. Three years later at the University of California, Berkeley. Grove started his career at Fairchild Semiconductor in 1963. He served as a researcher and was later promoted to assistant director of development. His advanced knowledge of integrated circuits and microcomputers led to his first book “Physics and Technology of Semiconductor Devices (1967)”.
In 1968, Grove joined Intel with co-founders Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore. He began to serve as the company’s director of engineering. Grove became Intel’s president in 1979 and CEO in 1987. Intel started manufacturing DRAM and in 1971 created the world’s first microprocessor. They created the 8088 microchip in 1978, which is mainly used by IBM for their personal computers.

Andrew Grove passed away on March 21, 2016, at the age of 79. The cause of death was not disclosed. However, as early as 2000, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Grove married “Eva Castan” in 1958 until his death in 2016. They have two daughters and eight grandchildren. Andrew Grove’s net worth is US$500 million. In 2006, he generously donated 26 million U.S. dollars to the City College of New York for the construction of the “Grove School of Engineering”. Grove received the Heinz Prize in 1995 and the IEEE Medal of Honor in 2000. In 1997, he was named “Man of the Year” by “Time” magazine.
