Andre De Grasse is a Canadian sprinter and Olympic silver medalist. He was born on November 10, 1994 in Scarborough, Ontario. His mother “Beverly” is from Trinidad and Tobago, and his father “Alex” is from Barbados. He has three brothers and sisters, Alexandra, Dante and Julian. De Grasse grew up in Markham, Ontario, where he attended Milliken Mills High School. He continued his education at Coffeyville Community College, followed by the University of Southern California. He is studying for a degree in sociology.

De Grasse began his track and field career in the third grade of high school. He was recruited by coach Tony Sharpe, who saw his potential at high school parties. De Grasse received a scholarship from Coffeyville Community College. He spent two seasons in Red Ravens and won five NJCAA championships. De Grasse participated in the 2013 Pan American Junior Championships in Colombia and won the silver medal.
De Grasse transferred to the University of Southern California in the fall of 2015. He won bronze medals in the 100m and 4×100m relay at the 2015 IAAF World Championships in Beijing. He also won gold medals in 100m and 200m sprints at the 2015 Pan American Games. De Grasse made his Olympic debut at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics. He won the bronze medal in the 100-meter sprint, behind Usain Bolt of Jamaica and Justin Gatlin of the United States. He won the 200-meter silver medal and the 4×100-meter bronze medal. De Grasse’s 100m time improved from 10.25 seconds in 2013 to 9.91 seconds in 2016. His 200m best time also improved from 20.72 seconds in 2013 to 19.80 seconds in 2016.
