Anderson Cooper is an American talk show host, new anchor and writer. He is best known for hosting the news program Anderson Cooper 360 on CNN. Cooper was born on June 3, 1967 in New York City. His mother, Gloria Vanderbilt, was an artist, and his father, Wyatt Emory Cooper, was a writer and screenwriter. He has two living brothers, Leopold and Christopher. In 1988, a third brother named Carter committed suicide. Cooper attended Dalton School, followed by Yale University. Graduated in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree in political science.

Cooper grew up in the spotlight thanks to his famous mother. Diane Arbus photographed him for Harper’s Bazaar when he was a baby. He has also appeared in advertisements for companies such as Ralph Lauren, Macy’s and Calvin Klein. Cooper interned at the CIA from 1988 to 1989. After college, he worked as a fact-checker at Channel One and later as chief international correspondent. Cooper debuted as a reporter for ABC News in 1995. He co-hosted World News Today (1999) and hosted the reality show The Mole (2000).
Cooper joined the CNN crew shortly after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. He co-hosted the morning show American Morning (2002) with Paula Zahn. Cooper rose to fame with his own news show, Anderson Cooper 360. The show premiered on CNN on September 8, 2003. He has covered major stories such as the death of Pope John Paul II and the bombing of the Boston Marathon. Cooper also serves as a reporter for CBS News’ 60 Minutes program. His book Dispatches from the Edge was published by HarperCollins in 2006.
