Amy Schumer is an American stand-up comedian and actress. She is best known for the award-winning sketch comedy series Inside Amy Schumer. Her film credits include the summer 2015 hit series Trainwreck. Schumer was born to parents Sandra and Gordon on June 1, 1981, in Manhattan, New York. She has two siblings, Kimberly and Jason. She is the cousin of U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer from New York. Schumer attended Southside High School, followed by Towson University. She graduated in 2003 with a BA in Drama. She continued her studies for two years at William Esper’s studio in New York City.

Schumer worked as a bartender and waitress before working in comedy. In 2004, she made her debut at the Gotham Comedy Club in New York. Schumer has appeared on TV shows “Live at Gotham,” “Last Comic Standing,” and “Reality Bites Back.” Her debut single, Cutting, was released in 2011. She followed up on the Comedy Central special “Mostly Sex Stuff” in 2012. Schumer played the role of “Trish” repeatedly in the third season of Delocated (2012). She also played the role of “Lacey” in the film “Finding a Doomsday Friend (2012)” with Steve Carell.
In 2013, Schumer wrote and hosted her own sketch comedy series Inside Amy Schumer. The show premiered on Comedy Central in April 2013. Renewed for a fifth season in January 2016. Schumer won an Emmy in 2015 for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series. The show also won a Peabody Award and a Writers Guild of America Award. Schumer played “Amy Townsend” in the comedy film “Trainwreck” (2015). The film is directed by Judd Apatow and stars Bill Hader and Brie Larson.
