Alicia Keys is an American singer, songwriter, and television actress. She has won multiple Grammys and is best known for her album Songs in A Minor. Keyes was born Alicia Ojero Cook on January 25, 1981 in Manhattan, New York. Her mother, Teresa Augello, is a paralegal and her father, Craig Cook, is a flight attendant. Case’s parents separated when she was a toddler. She grew up with a younger brother named Cole. Case attended the Professional Performing Arts School in Manhattan, followed by Columbia University. She dropped out of Columbia University to pursue music.

Case started piano lessons at the age of 7. She signed with Arista Records in 1998, followed by J Records in 2000. Keys’ debut studio album, Songs in A Minor, was released in June 2001 to commercial and critical acclaim. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and included the singles “Fallen,” “A Woman’s Worth,” and “How Come You Don’t Call Me.” It has since sold over 12 million copies and won 5 Grammys. The Keys’ second album, The Diary of Alicia Keys, was released in 2003. It’s certified 4x Platinum and has won multiple Grammys, including one for Best R&B Album. Keyes continues her success as I Am (2007), Elements of Freedom (2009) and Girl on Fire (2012). She has also collaborated with many artists, including Jay Z, Usher, Jack White and Kendrick Lamar.
Keyes made his television debut on The Cosby Show in 1985. She is believed to be Alicia Cook. She returned to the screen in 2001 after 15 years. Keys has appeared on many TV shows, including Charmed, American Dream, Saturday Night Live, and The Backyardigans. Her film debut was the 2006 action film Smokin’ Aces starring Ben Affleck. Keys co-starred in The Nanny Diaries (2007) with Scarlett Johansson and The Secret Life (2008) with Queen Latifah. She was a guest mentor for season 4 of The X Factor Australia in 2012. Keys served as a mentor for season 7 of NBC’s The Voice in 2014. She returned in 2016 as the coach for season 11 of The Voice.
