Alexander Acosta is an American attorney and Dean of the Law School at Florida International University. He is a Communist. He was nominated by President Donald Trump to be U.S. Secretary of Labor. Acosta was born Rene Alexander Acosta on January 16, 1969, in Miami, Florida. He is of Cuban descent. Acosta attended Gulliver School in Miami-Dade County, Florida. He received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Harvard University and a J.D. degree from Harvard Law School.

Acosta began his career as a paralegal to Samuel Alito on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit. He then worked at the law firm “Kirkland & Ellis” in Washington, D.C., focusing on employment and labor issues. Acosta teaches a variety of courses at George Mason University School of Law. From 1998 to 2000, he was a senior fellow at the Center for Ethics and Public Policy.

Acosta served on the National Labor Relations Board (2002-03) under President George W. Bush. He later served as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights (2003-05) and U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida (2005-09). Acosta was named Dean of the Florida International University School of Law on July 1, 2009. He was nominated by President Donald Trump to be the next U.S. Secretary of Labor in February 2017. His nomination comes a day after Trump’s original pick, Andrew Puzder, withdrew his name from consideration.

Acosta has served on various committees, including the Florida Innocence Commission and the Hispanic Rights and Responsibilities Commission. He was awarded the Presidential Higher Education Award by the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in 2013.
