Skorobogatko has amassed a multi-billion dollar fortune with his partner Alexander Ponomarenko and has completed several projects with him. Alexander Ivanovich Skorobogatko was born on September 25, 1967 in Gorlovka, Donetsk region, Ukraine. In 1996 he received his master’s degree from the Plekhanov Russian Academy.
The first joint establishment of Skorobogatko and Ponomarenko was a small perfumery in Ukraine. They then went on to establish the General Bank of Russia in Moscow to service the Novorossiysk port business. After the Russian financial crisis in 1998, the business duo saw a great opportunity to acquire a stake in the port handling company, which eventually led to the creation of the Novorossiysk commercial seaport. After going public in 2007, Skorobogatko and Ponomarenko had a $1 billion windfall. The pair sold a 20% stake to Arkady Rotenberg in 2008, and four years later they decided to form TPS Real Estate Holdings with him with a capital of $15.5 billion. He was not actively involved in the business for a period when he reached the State Duma from 2002 to 2011, when he was re-elected for a third term.
