He became rich overnight as the founder, president and CEO of ICT Group, a private equity group headquartered in Moscow, Russia. Born on December 19, 1962 in Leningrad, USSR, he studied radiochemistry at the prestigious Leningrad Polytechnic Institute of Lensovit.
After graduation, he worked as a supervisor at the Baltic Shipyard, one of the largest and oldest shipyards in Russia. In the early 1990s, he decided to start his own business, which in 1993 became known as the ICT (“Invest, Build, Technology”) group. In the same year, he managed to make a fortune and returned to the Baltic shipbuilding industry Yaz as its controlling shareholder and chairman of the board. The group mainly invests in the financial, precious metals and engineering sectors and is now one of the largest private investment and industrial companies in Russia. The group’s portfolio includes well-known leaders in their respective industries such as NOMOS-BANK, Khanty-Mansi Bank, Polymetal and Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant.
