Ellen Thicke is a Canadian actor, television host, screenwriter and producer. He is best known for his role as “Jason Seaver” on the ABC sitcom Growing Pains. Thicke was born Alan Willis Jeffrey on March 1, 1947, in Kirkland Lakes, Ontario. His biological parents were Joan and William Jeffrey. He has two siblings, Todd and Joanne. Sikh grew up in Lake Elliott, where he attended Lake Elliott Middle School. Graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1967.

Thicke’s early TV credits include This Is Our Thing, America 2-Night and Love Boat. He wrote, produced and hosted The Alan Thicke Show (1980-82) and Thicke of the Night (1983-84). He was later cast as Dr. Jason Rowland Seaver on the ABC television sitcom Growing Pains. The show ran from September 1985 to April 1992 with a total of 166 episodes. In 1988, he was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance. Thicke played “Dennis Dupree” on the NBC sitcom “Hope and Gloria” (1995-96). He made a cameo appearance as “Fu Jiang” in the soap opera “Bold and Beautiful” (2006-09).
Sikh’s film credits include Copper Mountain (1983) with Jim Carrey, Carolina (2003) with Julia Stiles and Alpha Dog (2006) with Emile Hirsch. He has hosted many game shows including Animal Crack-Ups, Pictionary and Three’s a Crowd. As a composer, he wrote the theme songs for popular shows such as The Facts of Live, Diff’rent Strokes and Wheel of Fortune. He has also published two books, How Men Have Children (1999) and How to Raise Children Who Won’t Hate You (2006). He was inducted into the Canada Walk of Fame in 2013.
