Alan Rickman is an English actor, director and producer best known for his villainous roles in films such as Die Hard and Harry Potter. He was born on 21 February 1946 in Acton, West London. He excelled in the arts and was awarded a scholarship to Latymer Upper School in London. He went on to study Graphic Design at Chelsea College of Art and Design, followed by the Royal College of Art. He co-founded the successful graphic design studio Graphiti, which ran for three years. From 1972-1974 he studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. In 1978 he became a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company.
