He works mainly in Telugu cinemas and has played over 90 roles. Nagarjuna has won two National Film Awards, two Southern Film Awards and nine state Nandi Awards.
Nagarjuna played Annamacharya in the 1997 film Annamayya, Yavakri in the 2002 film Angi Varsha, Major Padmapani Acharya in the 2003 film LOC Kargil, Kancherla Gopanna in the 2006 film Sri Ramadasu, in 2012 Sai Baba who played Shirdi in Shirdi Sai’s film, and Chandaludu in 2013’s film Jagadguru Adi Sankara. Nagarjuna starred in the movie “Gitanjali” in 1989 and the same year. He made his Bollywood debut in 1990 on Shiva Island. Nagarjuna represented South Indian Films at 100 Years of Indian Cinema at the 2013 Delhi Film Festival. He co-owns the Indian Badminton League’s Mumbai Masters and Indian Mahi Mahi Racing Team. Akkineni started making films in 1995. He co-owns the production company Annapurna Studios with his brother Venkat. Nagarjuna is also the principal of the non-profit film school Annapurna International School of Film and Media. He is also the co-founder of Blue Cross Hyderabad.
