Adrian Peterson is an American professional football player currently signed with the Minnesota Vikings. He’s 6-foot-1 and plays the running back position. Peterson was born on March 21, 1985 in Palestine, Texas. His mother, Bonita, was a track star and his father, Nelson, played basketball for Idaho State University. His brother Brian was killed by a drunk driver when he was 9 years old. Peterson attended Palestine High School and then the University of Oklahoma. He studied sociology but never completed his degree.

Peterson was competitive in basketball, track and football at Palestine High. He finished second in the 100-meter sprint at the 2003 state track and field competition. Peterson played two seasons on college football starting his junior year. As a senior, he rushed for 2,960 yards and 32 touchdowns. He won the 2003 Hall Trophy as Army Player of the Year. Peterson continued his football career at the University of Oklahoma. From 2004 to 2006, he played for the Oklahoma team for three seasons. Peterson rushed for 1,925 yards as a freshman, breaking Billy Sims’ longstanding record of 1,896 yards. He was the 2004 Heisman Cup runner-up behind Matt Lennart. Peterson finished his college career with 4,245 rushing yards. He is also a 3-time Big 12 winner.
Peterson was selected by the Minnesota Vikings with the seventh overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft. Signed a 6-year contract on July 29 and made his professional debut on September 9. Peterson was named the 2007 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year with 1,341 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. He was named NFL Most Valuable Player, Offensive Player of the Year and Comeback Player of the Year in 2012. Peterson’s other honors include 5-time All-NBA First Team, 2-time All-NBA Second Team and 2-time Burt Bell Award recipient. From 2007 to 2015, he played in seven Pro Bowls.
