Janet Marie Waldo is an American actress best known as the voice of “Judy Jetson” in the animated series The Jetsons. She was born on February 4, 1920, in Yakima, Washington, to Jane and Benjamin. Her older sister “Elizabeth” is a violinist. Waldo completed his studies at the University of Washington. She performed in many school plays and eventually caught the attention of singer and actor Bing Crosby.

Waldo signed with Paramount Pictures and played a series of small roles starting in 1938. Her first role was as “Ruth Phelps” in the 1938 mystery film “Detective Tom Sawyer.” She had supporting roles in The Bandit Trail (1941) and Land of the Open Range (1942). Waldo transitioned to broadcasting in 1943 with the help of Crosby. She has appeared on many shows including Meeting Collis Archer, A Man’s Family, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, and The Adventures of Odyssey.

Waldo voices “Judy Jetson” in the animated sitcom “The Jetsons.” She held the role from 1962 to 1963 and from 1985 to 1987. She reprised the role of Judy in The Jetsons Meet the Flintstones (1987). Waldo also voiced “Pearl Slaghoople” in The Flintstones, “Nancy” in Shazzan, “Penelope Pitstop” in Wacky Races, and “Josie” in Josie and the Pussycats.

Janet Waldo passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at the age of 96. Five years ago, she was diagnosed with a benign but inoperable brain tumor. Waldo was married to playwright “Robert Edwin Lee” from 1948 until his death in 1994. They have two children, Lucy and Jonathan.
