Tova Traesnaes was born on November 17, 1941 in Oslo, Norway. After her parents divorced, Tova immigrated to the United States with her mother. They soon settled in Manhattan, New York, where she planned to study acting.
Tova quickly fell in love with makeup over makeup. Tova opened her own makeup shop in 1965 after marrying her first husband, Louis Littleton. Unfortunately, the marriage failed in the early 70’s and they divorced in 1972.

In 1977, Tova began selling her products by mail. When word of the “facelift in a jar” reached Hollywood stars, they were clamoring for it quickly, and Tova’s corporate orders flooded in.
In 1983, Tova launched a fragrance called “Tova Signature”. By this time, her company had relocated to Beverly Hills and had nearly 50 employees, most of whom worked at a factory in Arcadia, California. By the end of the 80s, she employed 80 people and produced about 65 skin care products.

Tova began selling her products on QVC in 1990. By 2001, her fragrances were QVC’s best-selling fragrances. A year later, QVC bought her label for “seven-figure” revenue.

Tova married actor Ernest Borgnine in 1973, a year after her divorce from Louis Littleton was finalized. She was his fifth and final wife. After his death in 2012, they married.
